Community Emergency Response Team
The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community.
Is Riverview West Prepared? Are You Prepared...?
The answer to the first question is NO. Our neighborhood as a whole is not prepared for a large-scale disaster compared to other neighborhoods in the city. Like insurance, it's a good idea to be prepared ahead of time for life's disasters and set-backs. And the best way that we can equip ourselves and our loved ones to navigate potential emergency situations is to work together now and build a Riverview West Neighborhood team of first responders. Not only will this be beneficial for all sorts of occasional little emergencies (i.e.: what to do if a toddler is choking, etc.), but this could be life-saving in the event of a serious situation when professional help is yet to reach us.
It is our goal to identify and develop Sub-Neighborhood CERT Block Captains and Block Teams. It is also our goal to have as many residents in Riverview West as possible become CERT-trained and certified so that more people will be able to better care for themselves and their families in the event of a disaster. If you would like to go beyond that and join your Sub-Neighborhood CERT team, please fill out the below contact form so that a neighborhood CERT captain can contact you with details.
