RIVERVIEW WEST WANTS YOU!
Be a Block Captain! VOLUNTEERING TO BE A BLOCK CAPTAIN
The only requirements to be a Block Captain are looking out for your neighborhood and passing on important information to your neighbors. 5 Simple Steps to Start Your Block 1. Riverview West's Neighborhood Watch Committee and CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) Committee provide start-up materials and other supplies to all their Block Captains. Materials include an Introduction Letter for Block Captains to use in meeting neighbors, a Participant Sign-Up Form, and a Block Participant Roster. |
2. Begin by going house-to-house, distributing the letter and the sign-up form. Tell your neighbors that Riverview West Neighborhood now has an up-to-date Neighborhood Watch Program and CERT Program and invite them to participate in them. If there is no one home at the time, materials may be sent by U.S. Postal Service, with envelopes and postage stamps provided by the Riverview West Neighborhood Watch Committee and the Riverview West CERT Committee.
3. As the Participant Sign-Up Forms are returned, the Block Captain fills in and maintains a copy of the Block Participant Roster - either on a computer or in a hard-copy form.
4. The Block Captain enters each block participant's e-mail address into his/her address book.
5. The Block Captain forwards Neighborhood Watch and CERT updates and appropriate communications regarding the block to block participants. If people are sent too much information, or if the Block Captain forwards personal e-mails, participants may feel that sharing their e-mail address was a mistake.
Riverview West's Neighborhood Watch program and CERT program are completely voluntary. Only those who have signed up will receive our Neighborhood Watch and CERT updates, warnings, etc., via Nextdoor, email, or another distribution system for participants without e-mail access.
Neighborhood Watch and CERT forms have been simplified to assist Block Captains in keeping the block organized. If you have ideas on changes to the forms or on anything else to make the Neighborhood Watch Program and the CERT Program more efficient, please let the Riverview West Neighborhood Watch Committee and the Riverview West CERT Committee know. Feel free to contact us at any time.
With effective Neighborhood Watch and CERT programs in place, Riverview West will be an even better and safer community.
